a little bit of my story…

it started years ago…

I was in college, doing the typical college things. Binge drinking, eating ramen, going out for half off apps at Applebees (IYKYK). Soon, classes got hard and sleep became less frequent. I discovered weight lifting and running and started doing that to give me energy throughout the days since sleeping never crossed my mind. Either way, my enjoyment of fitness began and not long after, I discovered my true love - nutrition.

basically rocket science

So, a few years ago, let’s say 5 years ago so I don’t age myself too much, I began learning about nutrition and started switching out my ramen noodles for chicken and veggies. Wow, what a revolutionary thing! Eating ramen noodles every night makes me feel like crap and chicken and veggies doesn’t?!

College didn’t teach me any of this!

I truly began living my best life.

exit: hormonal birth control

I had been on hormonal birth control for like 6 years at this point and on my new “health journey” I figured I should probably kick that stuff to the curb. So… I just stopped taking it.
HELLO CYSTIC ACNE AND HORMONAL DISASTER!!! It was horrific. And whats worse, is no dermatologist or doctor could tell me why my perfect adolescent skin had turned into a crime scene seemingly out of nowhere. For over a year I tried everything to get rid of this acne (except any prescription level stuff). And nothing worked, NOTHING!

a series of unfortunate events

So I finally gave in and went back to my doc and said “hello what is happening to my face, please make it stop” and she said “ok heres a prescription for birth control that helps with acne”. Well, naive me started popping those pills again, desperate at this point.

*realizes hormonal birth control withdrawal was causing my hormonal acne in the first place* *throws birth control away for good* *gets pregnant* *has miscarriage*

a happy ending

That got sad for a second. I know, it sucked. They tell you not to blame yourself… but I did. Why? Because I knew there were things I could’ve done better. It was a dark time of my life, and a super stressful one. My hormones were nuts, my sleep was bad. Anxiety was through the roof. It was just too much for my body. So, soon after, when I became pregnant with my now crazy toddler boy, I knew I was going to be proactive about my health. Not just eating green smoothies and stuff. But, like, actually healing my hormones, sleeping well, caring for my mental health, the whole dang thing.

here we are today

In my first trimester of pregnancy, I discovered the Nutritional Therapy Association. This was in early 2019. A seed was planted. I thought, “wow this is literally my dream job, to study nutrition and coach others, but it’s too expensive, bad timing, impossible for me to do.” Well well well, the joke is on me because at the start of 2020, I was a new stay at home mom, in the beginning of major life changes that would require a shift in my career path, and found myself qUaRaNtInEd at home all day (too soon? ugh still a little raw for me too). “Now is my chance” I told myself, “now is the time I become a nutritional therapy practitioner.” I bit the bullet in 2020 and here we are, one year later, actually doing my dream job. WOOHOO!
